Two new large-scale, highly industrial and toxic fracked gas infrastructure projects are slated for NYS upstate region as seen in the project map. The ESU - Eastern System Upgrade, brings on new compressor stations as well as new pipeline infrastructure; whereas the CPV Valley power plant will deliver new emission impacts upwards of a 30-mile radius from its site situated immediately south of Middletown, NY.
Through this independent analysis, Several new PEJA (Potential Environmental Justice Area) tracts have been found in very close proximity to the site, as well as a 10% PEJA potential increase throughout the 30 mile project corridors which fall within 3 congressional districts and 7 counties. This increase is due to demographic changes that have taken place throughout the NYS upstate region between the original applicant's analysis using 2000 census data, and this independent analysis using more recent census ACS 2014 5-year estimate data. With significant new toxic emissions resulting from these projects, all families and individuals living in the region are at significant risk- but those living in PEJA areas are particularly at risk.
